Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background Calibrated integrated backscatter (cIB) derived by 2D echocardiography quantifies myocardial ultrasound reflectivity, and it has been used in previous studies as a surrogate for fibrosis. Before the advent other cardiac imaging techniques, was major focus tissue characterization research. Purpose We examined whether cIB may help identify patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) at risk procedure-related complications. Methods Consecutive submitted to transfemoral TAVI between January December 2021 were routinely imaged five days peri-procedure. obtained from parasternal long-axis view (PLAX) subtracting pericardial intensity septal posterior wall average cIB. Patients with poor PLAX views excluded study. Measurements cIB, expressed decibels, performed end-diastole. The primary endpoint occurrence TAVI-related Results Of 149 that underwent during study period, 131 had reasonable acoustic window measurement included Patient mean age 82.1±6.9 years, 62% female. At baseline, 84% preserved left ventricle function, gradient 47.3±14.8 mmHg, Euroscore II 5.34±3.24. global measured 19.74±7.56 dB. No significant differences found reflectivity complications (20.63±10.8 vs 19.6±6.9 dB, p = 0.587), which defined according Valve Academic Research Consortium-2 consensus. However, significantly higher who post-TAVI conduction disturbances (21.09±7.72 18.11±7.06 0.026), including bundle branch block atrioventricular block. There also negative correlation annulus area computed tomography (r(129)= −0.19, 0.032), pre-TAVI estimated glomerular filtration rate less than 30 mL/min/1.73m2 (22.42±7.17 19.56±6.88 0.043). Conclusion Our data disfavors use predictor complications, but suggests assessment could add value identifying procedures.

Reducing mortality rates in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation

Our society is rapidly aging, and this is associated with an increase in the number of patients with cardiovascular disease, such as aortic valve stenosis. In the western world, aortic valve stenosis is predominantly the consequence of valve degeneration, which shares some pathophysiological pathways with atherosclerosis, finally leading to leaflet calcification [1]. With the occurrence of symp...

Antithrombotic treatment in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an established treatment option for symptomatic patients with severe aortic valvular disease who are not suitable for conventional surgical aortic valve replacement. Despite improving experience and techniques, ischaemic and bleeding complications after TAVI remain prevalent and impair survival in this generally old and comorbid-rich population....

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation in dialysis patients.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has emerged as a new therapeutic option for high-risk patients. However, dialysis patients were excluded from all previous studies. The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes of TAVI for dialysis patients with those for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3 and 4 and to compare TAVI with open surgery in dialysis ...

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

A 97-year-old man was referred for assessment to our transcather aortic valve implantation (TAVI) team. He had suffered multiple hospitalizations for heart failure with a signifi cantly elevated BNP at 1830 pg/mL. At the time of assessment, he had grade IV New York Heart Association (NYHA) symptoms. Until recently, he had been working actively, but this had subsequently been severely limited by...

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

Calcific aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common form of degenerative heart valve disease in developed countries. AS predominantly affects the elderly with a prevalence of 4% in people over the age of 80 years. With increasing longevity and an ageing population the absolute number of people afflicted with AS is set to rise. The clinical course of the disease is insidious at first (Ross & Braunw...
